Nottingham Forest star Remo Freuler has done himself proud at the World Cup in Qatar but Switzerland have bowed out after being thrashed by Portugal.

The game proved a complete mismatch. A stunning Goncalo Ramos hat trick and goals from Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro and Rafael Leao completed a dominant performance.

Freuler will now head back to England following the tournament. He will undergo a period of rest and then hope to be fit and ready for the Premier League return.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a good World Cup for Switzerland. He’s started every game that they’ve played and is an integral part of the team.

Forest’s midfield maestro will be hurting right now. He’s enjoyed a strong tournament but this wasn’t the way it was supposed to end.

Freuler started to come good prior to the World Cup break. He had taken some time to settle since joining in the summer from Atalanta.

Now, he’s integral to Steve Cooper’s plans and he will likely remain a key part of the team when the Premier League resumes.

After last night’s game, Freuler was assessed by the national media. They delivered an interesting verdict saying that he got better as the game progressed.

Swiss outlet 20min claimed: “Not a good performance for a long time, had trouble getting into the game. At 1-0, when he launched Xherdan Shaqiri nicely on the wing, he finally showed his real ability.”

Freuler can be proud and Forest will be excited to have him back

After reaching the last 16 of the World Cup, Freuler can take some confidence. He’d have hoped to go at least one round further but sadly that wasn’t to be.

Freuler can be happy with his performances though. They were everything that Forest fans thought they would be and he became the fourth Reds player to ever score at the World Cup.

The midfielder hasn’t got too much time to dwell on this disappointment. Forest are back in action in a few weeks and he will be required back in training soon.

Freuler can look back at Qatar 2022 with some fond memories and nobody will ever take his winning goal against Serbia away from him.
