Nottingham Forest are keen to sign ex-Rangers star Lassana Coulibaly, according to Salerno Today. The Reds are one of several clubs eyeing a move for the player who is valued at £6 million.

Coulibaly is currently playing in Serie A with Salernitana. He transferred to Italy from French outfit Angers in the summer of 2021 and has made 48 appearances for his current club.

The player spent a single season at Rangers during the 2018/19 campaign. At Ibrox, he made 30 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and claiming two assists.

Clearly, Forest are trying to beef up their midfield a little bit. Coulibaly typically operates as a central midfielder and has a defence-minded skillset.

The report claims that Forest have already made an approach. Now, it remains to be seen whether the club will enter serious negotiations with the Reds.

It’s not even January yet and already speculation is starting involving Forest again. The Reds added 22 new players during the summer, with Gustavo Scarpa finally checking in as number 23 last week.

Coulibaly is likely to welcome a crack at the Premier League. At 26-years-old, he perhaps has his best years ahead of him and the signing makes a lot of sense.

This addition looks like a long-term alternative to Cheikhou Kouyate. The ex-Crystal Palace star has penned a two-year contract but Forest will need a replacement after that.

Coulibaly is a tough-tackling midfielder. He likes to get on the ball as well and he’d bring some interesting attributes to the City Ground.

At £6 million, the player doesn’t look particularly expensive. He has bags of experience across Europe and he could bring something to the team.

Coulibaly is also a full international. He has 30 caps for Mali and made his debut for the international team as a 20-year-old.

The Reds do have a number of midfield options at the moment. Another could be on the radar though and perhaps Forest could benefit from signing Coulibaly.
