Nottingham Forest have been handed a major boost in the quest to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The 25-year-old has told the Red Devils that he has no desire to return to Old Trafford.

Forest added the goalkeeper to their ranks in the summer. After Brice Samba stated a desire to leave the football club, the Reds were forced to act quickly to shore up their goalkeeping ranks.

Henderson has played for England during his career and now 90min claim that he has made a decision on his future. He has years to run on his contract at Old Trafford and he won’t come cheap to the Reds.

The stopper has been Forest’s number one this season. He is only on loan, however, and signing him might have looked like a tough ask some weeks ago, although that might not be the case.

Now, Manchester United are plotting to move for another goalkeeper. The Red Devils are eying a move to sign a player to compete with David de Gea for a place in the team next season.

Henderson isn’t enthused by this news. He has informed United of his intentions to leave the club at the end of the season and that could hand Forest a huge boost when it comes to signing him.

There is a caveat of course. Forest will need to stay in the Premier League if they’re serious about keeping Henderson; with the player destined for a future at the top end of English football.

Forest handed major boost in Henderson quest

The goalkeeper has been quality for Forest. He’s saved two penalties during 2022/23 from Harry Kane and Declan Rice during the campaign and his form has been largely positive.

At 25, he has his best years ahead of him. Henderson would be a quality signing to the Forest ranks but he could cost in the region of £25 million.

That would represent a snip if Forest stay in the Premier League. It would give them a quality keeper ahead of his best years and he’d be a major addition to the squad.

Henderson looks likely to leave United in the summer. As a result, Forest must go all out for his signature should they retain their Premier League status.
