Nottingham Forest tried to sign Croatia star Dominik Livakovic during the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic. Manchester United and Leicester City were also in the market to land the 27-year-old goalkeeper.
The Reds wanted the Dinamo Zagreb stopper ahead of their move to sign Dean Henderson. Ultimately, they chose to sign the United man ahead of the player who is starring at the World Cup.

Livakovic has been in stunning form for his country. He saved three penalties against Japan in the last 16 of the competition and then thwarted Rodrygo as Croatia sent Brazil packing on Friday.
Several Premier League outfits passed up the opportunity to sign Livakovic. He was available for around £5 million and perhaps those clubs will now be rueing their decision not to pursue him.
Interest will likely be high in the January window. Several high-profile clubs are set to be monitoring the player during the World Cup and right now, they will have been desperately impressed with his performances.
Livakovic actually came very close to joining Forest. A fee was close to being agreed with Dinamo Zagreb but the club preferred to land a higher-profile goalkeeper after Brice Samba had departed.
Forest tried to sign Livakovic
This would have been a decent signing for the Reds to make in the summer. Livakovic is clearly a top goalkeeper and if he helps Croatia win the World Cup his valuation could rocket.
Livakovic has been with Zagreb since 2015 when he signed from NK Zagreb. He’s made 262 appearances for his current club and is firmly established as their number-one goalkeeper.

During his time at the club, he’s made 122 clean sheets. He’s also played 39 times for the national team and looks destined to play for a club in a top European league in the near future.
The uncompromising player has tasted the experience of playing in the Champions League. Now, he will hope that his World Cup form can earn him a move in the near future.
