Talented Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Owen Foster has confirmed to BBC Radio Humberside that he has been on trial with Nottingham Forest.

The 17-year-old played his first game of the 2022/23 campaign last weekend as the Iron drew 0-0 with Yeovil Town.

It’s been a turbulent few seasons for the club, with last season’s relegation from the Football League the tip of the iceberg.

Now, the club are staring at another relegation as they sit rock bottom of the National League after 23 games.

Foster looks like a player that could star in the future and he certainly won’t be sticking with the club if they drop into the National League North.

The youngster did sign a two-year contract last season so a small fee would be needed if Forest were to sign him.

Foster has now explained some details of what happened when he joined Forest and claimed he enjoyed the experience.

Foster told BBC Radio Humberside: “I think it was something that the two clubs were discussing. I managed to go for a three-day trial, I went there, gave it all I’ve got and then came back. I’m not sure if they’ve said anything recently but it was a good experience.

“It was a lot different to what it was to here. The facilities and things and the quality of the training. It was a big step up but it was a good experience.

“All my focus is on Scunthorpe at the moment but to get the chance to go there was a big confidence boost.”

Foster has been on trial with Forest

The teenager looks like an exciting talent and perhaps another goalkeeper is something Forest can benefit from.

Foster made two appearances last season for Scunthorpe at a time when the club were already relegated to the National League.

The talented goalkeeper wouldn’t cost Forest must at all and the player would surely welcome the chance to join the Premier League outfit.

The one problem could come in the way of game time. With Foster now sampling men’s football, he’d surely want to continue playing regularly.

At 17, he’s not going to do that at Forest and as a result, signing him and loaning him back to Scunthorpe might be an ideal thing to do.
