A report by Nottinghamshire Live has claimed that Cafu and Lyle Taylor are unlikely to earn a reprieve at Nottingham Forest. Both players were omitted from the 25-man squad named by Steve Cooper for the first half of 2022/23.
Cafu being left out was perhaps more surprising than Taylor. The Portuguese performer featured as a substitute against West Ham in the Premier League before being handed the bad news.
The 29-year-old is a likeable member of the dressing room. Ultimately, the arrival of Cheikhou Kouyate who has similar qualities meant that Cafu was facing a bleak first half of the campaign.

His spirits have stayed high though. He was part of the squad as Forest played Stoke in a mid-season friendly and he’s often been spotted supporting his teammates on a match day.
Now, his future looks in limbo. Given that Cooper is unlikely to hand him a place in the 25-man squad, he will now surely look to leave the club once the January transfer window opens.
As for Taylor, his omission was less surprising. He was loaned out to Birmingham by Cooper last January. As a result, it was always unlikely that he’d be handed a chance to star in the Premier League.
He was on the bench for the first two games of the campaign before making way for other options to come into the squad.
Cafu and Taylor unlikely to earn Forest reprieve
This doesn’t really come as a massive surprise. Although Kouyate is injured and could miss two months, the Reds still have a plethora of midfield options.
The likes of Lewis O’Brien and Orel Mangala haven’t played much as it is and that’s unlikely to help Cafu in his quest for regular football.

The 29-year-old remains a likeable member of the squad but ultimately, given his age, he will want to be playing football.
Cafu and Taylor both have something left to offer a club for the second half of the season.
Unfortunately for them two that club won’t be Forest. Now, the Reds must do whatever it takes to get them regular action in January.
