Jesse Lingard has suggested that he’s been quite surprised at the noise that Nottingham Forest supporters generate at the City Ground. Furthermore, he’s claimed that the atmosphere on Trentside is the best he’s experienced as a player!

The 30-year-old celebrates his birthday today. Lingard chose to join Forest in the summer instead of West Ham. The Hammers faithful won’t want to hear it, but the player felt he’d play more at the City Ground.

Lingard perhaps hasn’t done quite as well as he’d have expected in the way of goals or assists. That hasn’t been through a lack of trying though and before the World Cup, he was looking sharp.

He scored and set the other up in a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. Lingard then kept his place for the last Premier League game against Crystal Palace, helping the Reds to a 1-0 win.

Now, he seems to have the full backing of the Forest fan base. There were some doubts over whether or not he’d be a useful signing for the club after some early performances that weren’t quite so good.

It would appear that Lingard is enjoying his time at Forest thought. He’s made a claim about the City Ground atmosphere that supporters will love and clearly, he wants to ensure a good second half of the season.

He told The Athletic: “The atmosphere is one of the best I’ve experienced. I get goosebumps every single time I hear them singing (Mull of Kintyre) before kick-off.”

Lingard comments have suggested he’s surprised at Forest noise

It’s not out of the ordinary for Lingard to have expected the noise to be particularly low compared to what he’s used to. The 30-year-old has spent most of his career playing for the team with the biggest stadium in the country and also played at a World Cup.

Still, it’s quite something that he considers the noise at Forest among the best. The Reds fan base will always be based and say that Mull of Kintyre really is something else when it’s at full volume.

The backing received on Trentside will be crucial to Forest’s fortunes. With just one point on the road all season, it’s imperative that the Reds keep the City Ground as a fortress in as many games as possible.
