Darren Fletcher has told the Garibaldi Red Podcast that he’d take ex-Manchester United man Cristiano Ronaldo at Nottingham Forest. The BT Sport man’s comments were made when Nottinghamshire Live journalist Matt Davies claimed he wouldn’t take the 37-year-old.

Ronaldo is currently available on a free transfer. He will demand a sizeable wage packet, however, and clearly even discussing him in the same conversation as a move to Forest is pretty ridiculous.

The elite player is hoping to continue playing at a decent level until Euro 2024. He will look to try and win that particular prize for the second time having tasted success during the 2016 competition.

Ronaldo has won everything during his club career. He’s tasted Champions League success on five occasions and also won the Ballon d’Or five times too.

The former United star has scored 701 goals during 949 matches throughout his career. He’s also registered 223 assists during his glittering career as one of the very best in the business.

It would seem that Fletcher would welcome Ronaldo at Forest. Even if the conversation was all a bit theoretical considering that it will never happen in a million years.

He told the Garibaldi Red Podcast: “Of course, you’d take Ronaldo at Forest. Are you trying to tell me that the Forest team isn’t better with Cristiano Ronaldo in it?”

It’s ridiculous to even consider this concept at all. Forest simply haven’t got the clout or the finances to sign a player considered as elite as Ronaldo.

You have to say, however, that the notion of not wanting him at the club is daft! If there was any consideration to be had, the Reds would of course welcome Ronaldo in their team.

It will definitely be interesting to see where he ends up. It looks unlikely that he will remain in Europe with lots of clubs simply not boasting the finances.

One way or another, Forest won’t be signing him any time soon!
