Nottingham Forest forward Jesse Lingard has reacted on social media after Lionel Messi led Argentina to World Cup glory. The final was decided with a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw over 120 minutes.

Messi has finally ticked off the one trophy that has eluded him. He was sensational throughout the contest and this has really been the tournament where he’s showcased his class to the world.

Over the years the debate has rumbled over who is greater between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, that one might need to be put to bed now, with the PSG man having claimed the greatest prize of all.

Lingard is certainly in no doubt. The Forest forward took to Twitter after the entertaining clash brought a close to the Qatar 2022 edition of the World Cup.

The Forest man played on Friday as the Reds defeated Valencia 2-1 in Spain. Lingard will be hoping to play once again on Wednesday night as Forest face Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup.

Lingard was watching the World Cup Final on Sunday. He posted a testament to Messi following the game and he clearly believes that the experienced performer is the greatest ever.

Lingard has risked the wrath of his former teammate, Ronaldo, by suggesting Messi is the greatest ever.

Still, the 30-year-old has a point. It’s hard to stick the former United player ahead of Messi now that he’s tasted World Cup glory.

Lingard isn’t alone in thinking Messi is the best ever. Now, plenty of Ronaldo fans are even handing the tag to the Argentinean star.

With the World Cup now consigned to the history books, supporters and Lingard can look forward to Forest getting back to domestic action.
