Nottingham Forest are drawing 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers at half-time of their Carabao Cup clash with Brennan Johnson in fine form.
The Reds player has been brilliant against the Championship outfit and he’s done something we’ve not seen from him all season!
Johnson won the penalty that gave the Reds the early advantage and then stepped up to send Aynsley Pears the wrong way.
It was the third time Johnson has hit the net this season and he will hope to put a disappointing World Cup behind him.
The ability has never been in question for Johnson but perhaps he could have been braver on some occasions during 2022/23.
Still, at 21-years-old, he has bags of time on his side and he’s a huge asset to the Forest team when he’s in this form.
Johnson bounced back from his missed penalty at Wolves in October to emphatically give Forest a lead.
It should bolster his confidence considerably and he was in unstoppable form down the right-hand side.
Johnson did something in first half against Blackburn that hasn’t been seen all season
People presumed that Djed Spence was a massive loss for the Reds when he departed. In fairness, they had a point!
However, in Neco Williams, Forest added an international teammate of Johnson and the partnership shouldn’t have been in question.
This season it’s been tricky for the duo to link up. Against Blackburn, however, they were rampant down the right for a good 45 minutes.
Blackburn’s duo of Ryan Hedges and Clinton Mola were truly shellshocked by the all-action duo and they were run ragged.
Johnson simply has to continue doing this to other defenders he comes up against.
He will learn and will definitely become a top player in the Premier League but he’s capable of doing this to better defenders.
Naturally, he won’t bully every defender in the Premier League but he has the raw pace and energy to at least give it a go every week.
This was a great 45 minutes for Johnson and hopefully he can keep this up!
