What’s the story: Blackburn Rovers v Nottingham Forest

Football is finally back. The World Cup was good fun but Premier League clubs have been itching to watch their team in action for far too long.

The Reds will hope to do what England managed in Qatar and reach the quarter-final tonight when they play in the Carabao Cup.

Given that this is Forest’s first game since November, it will be a tough ask for the Reds to see off one of the Championship’s top teams.

Rovers currently sit third in the division and have aspirations of winning promotion this season under Jon Dahl Tomasson.

They were thrashed last time out at home, however. Preston beat them 4-1 in their first game back and that will offer Forest hope.

The Reds were brilliant in the previous round of the Carabao Cup, seeing off Tottenham after a 2-0 City Ground victory.

Tonight sees Forest go back to the scene of one of the greatest wins on their way to promotion last season.

The Reds won 2-0 at Ewood Park to edge into the play-offs for the first time; with James Garner and Brennan Johnson grabbing the goals.

Steve Cooper will hope for more of the same this evening.

Broadcast details

Tonight’s game isn’t televised but you can view any goals as they go on via Sky Sports News who are featuring the game on a Soccer Special.

As ever, the game will be broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham with Colin Fray providing full match commentary.
