Nottingham Forest fans name Player of the Match v Blackburn, he was outstanding

Nottingham Forest fans have named their Player of the Match after beating Blackburn Rovers 4-1, with Brennan Johnson claiming the accolade.

The forward was in blistering form as the Reds put the Championship outfit to the sword with a superb display of finishing.

In the first half, the Reds should have been out of sight. Forest wasted several good chances, with Aynsley Pears also making some fine saves.

Johnson scored the penalty that put Forest in front and then rounded off the scoring with a rasping effort in second-half injury time.

The 21-year-old has now found the net four times in all competitions this season and it’s fair to say that he will be hoping for more.

Last night, he was unplayable at times. He linked up brilliantly well with Neco Williams down the right-hand side and forced Blackburn into taking their left-back off at half-time.

It was a performance that belied the Johnson of last season. He was brave, direct and used his ferocious pace to go forward whenever he had the ball.

Johnson claimed 50.2% of the fan vote with Jesse Lingard in second. Neco Williams and Taiwo Awoniyi were also named in the poll on the club’s official Twitter.

This is just reward for Johnson and he thoroughly deserves this accolade for last night’s performance.

He took his penalty with aplomb and rounded off the scoring with a brilliant effort that left Pears with absolutely no chance.

His overall play was far better than we’ve seen lately too and perhaps not starting with Wales at the World Cup has lit a fire in his belly.

Johnson is a match-winner for Forest on his day and supporters will now hope that there is more to come from the academy graduate.

The challenge for the youngster now is to kick on in the Premier League and continue proving his doubters wrong.
