Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has paid tribute to Nottingham Forest ahead of tonight’s game. He’s also lauded the late great Brian Clough for the job he did at the City Ground

Ten Hag will face Forest for the first time as a manager tonight. The Reds will face a United side bang in form and look to have a thankless task at Old Trafford later on.

Forest aren’t in bad form themselves. Prior to the World Cup break, they won against Crystal Palace and drew against Brentford to climb away from the foot of the table.

Tonight will be different though. The challenge for the Reds will be to stand firm and ensure that United don’t have as much joy going forward as Arsenal and Manchester City have against them this season.

Ten Hag thinks it’s great to have Forest back in the Premier League. He’s also spoken fondly of Clough who oversaw two European Cup triumphs over 40 years ago.

The United boss told the club’s official website: “I think it’s great (that Forest are back). It was a great team that won the European Cup. The man is mental, Brian Clough. It’s great to see such big traditional clubs back in the Premier League.

“Because it’s a traditional club, I like such a club. What is really a club from the crowd, the audience, the atmosphere in the stadium must be great. It’s good for the Premier League that they are back.”

The work Clough did at Forest will forever be remembered fondly for the work he did at the City Ground. It’s no surprise that Ten Hag speaks well of the Reds and clearly, it was a popular promotion back in May.

Forest aren’t here to make up the numbers though. They will want to stay up this season, following Evangelos Marinakis’ decision to spend heavily during the summer.

Facing United right now looks like a challenging ask. That said, things look like they could be able to turn a corner and Forest fans will hope to see an improvement in their performance levels away from home.
