Nottingham Forest face Manchester United today at Old Trafford as Premier League football returns for both teams.
The Reds defeated Blackburn in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday; with United overcoming another Championship outfit in Burnley.
Forest will hope to put in an improved performance on the road today having claimed just two points at home during 2022/23.
Ahead of today’s clash, we looked at how Steve Cooper could line up his team at Old Trafford.
Predicted Nottingham Forest XI to play Manchester United
The Forest rearguard
Forest will definitely make a change between the posts with Dean Henderson ineligible to play against his parent club.
That opens the door for Wayne Hennessey to start and if he doesn’t recover from a niggle, Jordan Smith will deputise.
At the back, there could be some changes too.
Serge Aurier should be fit so is likely to play at right-back, with Renan Lodi replacing Harry Toffolo on the left.
Scott McKenna could also come in for Willy Boly as Steve Cooper aims to bring some balance to his back four.
Joe Worrall should captain the side.
The Forest engine room
Orel Mangala seemed to struggle at Blackburn and could be replaced by Lewis O’Brien.
Remo Freuler should keep his place, with Ryan Yates almost certain to start the game too.
It will be a big loss for Forest with Cheikhou Kouyate injured and Cooper does have a conundrum in the midfield area.
Leading the Forest line
Taiwo Awoniyi scored a wonderful goal at Blackburn in midweek and he could lead the line again.
Morgan Gibbs-White might only be fit enough for the bench so that could see Jesse Lingard start at his former stomping ground.
If he operates from the left, expect Brennan Johnson to play on the right.
