Jamie Carragher heaped praise on Ryan Yates during Sunday’s draw with Chelsea, suggesting that he’s an absolute nuisance to any opposition player that he comes up against.

The Sky Sports pundit made the claim during the 68th minute of Forest’s game against the Blues. A goal by Serge Aurier cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opening goal which came in the first half.

Yates has grown in the Forest midfield as the season has progressed. His critics claimed that he wasn’t up to scratch earlier in the campaign but he’s slowly but surely adapting to the Premier League.

Carragher made 508 appearances for Liverpool in the top flight. He was a one-club man throughout his career and helped the Reds win a number of titles at Anfield.

He believes that Yates is a real handful when it comes to the defensive side of the game. As Forest were fighting to try and claim a big three points at the City Ground he heaped praise on the Reds’ star.

Carragher said in the 68th minute of Sunday’s game: “Yates in midfield for Forest has been fantastic, he’s what you’d call a nark!

“He’s just on the edge where, a couple of times he’s had to pull out of tackles because he knows he’s on that yellow card but you can tell it’s really difficult for him, he really wants to get in the faces of Chelsea players and stop them playing.”

The central midfielder is quickly becoming one of the most important players in the Forest team. His performances have been fantastic of late and he looks destined to get even better.

Yates has had a number of critics over the years. Now, however, he’s starting to showcase that he can become a really big player for the club and deservedly hold down a place in the team.

When Joe Worrall found himself out of the side earlier in the season, Yates took over the armband. The captaincy is a role he thrives on and to be honest he’s been class under Steve Cooper.

Yates will be a big player for the Reds between now and the end of the campaign. He’s hardworking, tough-tackling and is also starting to look like a more composed figure in possession.
