Sky Sports reported Keith Downie has claimed that Sunderland want to sign Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge. The talisman is available for a loan after starting just one game in the Premier League this season.
He’s claimed on his official Twitter account that the Black Cats are keen to take Surridge. They were stunned over the weekend when Everton decided to recall Ellis Simms from his loan stint.
Sunderland are in contention to challenge for a play-off place this season. They are in their maiden season back in the Championship and under Tony Mowbray, they appear to be going places.

Surridge is desperate to play regular football once again. He moved to Forest in January 2022 for £2.3 million and bagged himself eight goals as the Reds won promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.
This season has been a struggle for the player though. He’s been overlooked by a number of new recruits and has managed just 168 minutes of action in the Premier League.
A large chunk of those minutes came in the first game of the season against Newcastle. Since then, he’s failed to start in the league and now a temporary move could be on the cards.
Sunderland want to sign Surridge
Mowbray would hit the jackpot this month if he manages to sign the Forest man to replace Simms. Nothing against the Everton talent but Surridge is a far more polished option at this stage of his career.

After his exploits of last season, the 24-year-old will fancy scoring goals in the Championship. If he can bag a similar amount to land season, he could help Sunderland win a second successive promotion.
Surridge would definitely benefit from a period out on loan. Forest should definitely refrain from a sale though and if they can’t stay in the Premier League, he’d be an asset next season for the Reds.
