Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Alex Moreno after the left-back chose to reject a move to Nottingham Forest during the summer. Fabrizio Romano claims that the 30-year-old is now willing to move to the Premier League and link up with Unai Emery.

The Premier League outfit will go in search of some new players this month. Emery wants to stamp his own authority on the Villa team and in order to do that he will try and reshuffle his pack.

Moreno had practically said his goodbyes to Real Betis fans during the summer. Forest had identified him as the player they wanted to come in and compete with Harry Toffolo and Omar Richards for the left-back role.

At the eleventh hour, he changed his mind. The experienced performer decided not to move to the City Ground and advised the Betis faithful that he couldn’t imagine leaving them any time soon.

It would appear that six months is a long time in football. Now, he’s willing to pack his bags and head to the Premier League, with Aston Villa set to win the race to sign the experienced player.

Romano claims that discussions are set to continue in the coming days. He does suggest, however, that the talks are now at an advanced stage with a deal looking very likely right now.

This deal is still a work in progress. A bid of £12 million has already been rejected but it does appear as though the club will return with another offer for the Spaniard.

When Forest didn’t get Moreno, they turned to Renan Lodi. It’s fair to say that the Reds didn’t do badly out of that; with Lodi younger and boasting arguably a better footballing CV.

The 29-year-old has clearly had second thoughts about moving to the Premier League. Clearly, Emery has a significant pull and Moreno fancies playing for the proven top-flight boss.

If a deal does get over the line, it will be interesting to see how he goes at Villa Park. Forest will certainly be monitoring the player with vast intrigue.
