Ex-Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has sent an emotional Instagram post to Gareth Bale after he decided to retire. The superstar has hung up his boots following the World Cup in Qatar with Wales.
Johnson has seen first-hand what impact Bale has had on Welsh football. He’s been a regular at their games over the last couple of years watching his son and Forest star Brennan.
Bale has enjoyed a sensational career. It’s quite remarkable what he’s managed to achieve and debate has now started over whether he’s the best player to ever emerge from the United Kingdom.

That does seem a little bit over the top. However, his career has been magnificent and he finishes with 186 goals and 137 assists from 554 appearances across his time playing for clubs and country.
Bale also brings the curtain down on his career with a glut of trophies to his name. He has won the Champions League on five occasions and also helped Real Madrid claim three league titles.
Wales will definitely miss Bale. He has scored 40 goals in 111 caps for his country and helped them reach the last two European Championships and the recent World Cup in Qatar.
Johnson has sent emotional message as Bale decides to retire
Bale retiring could actually benefit Brennan Johnson. He was a substitute in all three games at the World Cup and he will hold a desire to be a regular starter for his country.
The winger will be keen to get his head down and get going for Forest now. His form prior to the World Cup was patchy and that led to some supporters throwing criticism at the player.

Since the tournament finished, the Reds forward has been magnificent for Forest. He was exceptional in last week’s first away win of the campaign against Southampton and he will be keen to kick on.
Johnson Snr took to Instagram yesterday to offer Bale some advice. He said on his social media story: “Enjoy your retirement.”
