Nottingham Forest will face competition for Danilo from Leeds and Newcastle, according to Calciomercato. The Brazilian is also on the radar of Arsenal and he could leave his current club this month.

The Reds are desperate to bolster their midfield ranks this January. Cheikhou Kouyate is injured until March and that leaves Forest in short supply of central midfielders.

Remo Freuler, Ryan Yates and Orel Mangala are playing pretty well together. All three are pretty similar though and the team does lack a real midfield enforcer when those three play.

Steve Cooper has a number of targets in mind for his engine room. It would appear that Danilo is near the top of that list though and he fits the profile of a player that he would sign.

The Brazilian is only 21-years-old, yet has a fair amount of experience. During 2022 he made 58 appearances for Palmeiras, scoring seven goals and registering four assists as they won the league title.

Danilo would have a familiar face to help him settle at the City Ground. Gustavo Scarpa has already been added to the ranks, making two appearances for his new club so far.

A host of Premier League clubs are keen though. Leeds are very keen, whilst Newcastle also want to bolster their midfield ranks and also have a number of Brazilians already in their ranks.

Still, it’s claimed that Forest are the club currently in pole position. Danilo is already the subject of a bid from the Reds and they hope that a deal can be done in the coming weeks.

Following on from the report by The Telegraph last night, it would appear that Danilo will have lots of options this month. A departure from Palmeiras seems highly likely and he could have plenty of choice.

One positive aspect of joining Forest would be the amount of game time he’d get. The Reds are in need of a defensive enforcer in midfield after the cruel injury Kouyate collected at the World Cup.

That could play a factor and perhaps Forest won’t be too worried about the interest from Leeds. Newcastle, however, are chasing the Champions League and that makes them very attractive.

Danilo would be a very useful signing for the Reds this month. Given the vast interest in the talented player, however, they will need to get their skates on with a deal.
