Danilo has told friends that he will be heading to Nottingham Forest to play alongside Gustavo Scarpa. The Reds are thought to be close to completing a deal to sign the midfielder from Palmeiras.
Brazilian publication UOL have claimed that Danilo has told those close to him that he’s heading to Forest. Furthermore, 90Min claims that the 21-year-old has spoken with Scarpa about a move to the East Midlands.
This all sounds very positive from a Forest perspective. The Reds are keen to sign a player that is capable of replacing Cheikhou Kouyate, with the Senegalese star set to be out until March.
Danilo was part of the same team as Scarpa that achieved greatness last season. Palmeiras were unstoppable as they romped to the title and now the duo could link up once more.
If Forest can get this deal over the line, it would be quite something. Danilo has been a wanted man for over a year, with Arsenal, Newcastle and Leeds all showing interest this month.
Now it would appear that Forest are nearing a deal for the player. Reading the reports it seems crystal clear that the player wants to head to the City Ground and reunite with Scarpa.
How times change. This time last year, the Reds were adding Keinan Davis, Sam Surridge and Steve Cook to try and climb the Championship and reach the Premier League.
A year down the line and Forest are busy pursuing wonderkids. This time their remit is very different and the club needs some help in their quest to survive in the Premier League.
Danilo tells friends he’s heading to Forest
This looks to be getting close. Of course, at this time of the year, there are lots of reports and more crucially, lots of rumours.
However, there is no smoke without fire. As a result, it would appear that this deal is edging closer to being completed.
Danilo will become the first signing of the January transfer window, with the deal to sign Scarpa actually completed in the summer.
Forest boss Steve Cooper had been keen to sign a midfielder this month. They’re in short supply in the Forest squad and Danilo will add some steel.
It will be fascinating to see how he gets on at the City Ground and the wonderkid could prove a wonderful signing.
