Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White has explained to the Daily Mail that his idol growing up was Wayne Rooney. Furthermore, he’s also suggested that he was delighted to get the number 10 shirt at Forest given it was the number that Rooney used to wear.
Gibbs-White signed for the Reds during the summer. He became the club’s record signing when he joined from Wolves for an initial £25 million, much to the surprise of some supporters.
The 22-year-old was Steve Cooper’s number-one target for the summer. He had worked with Gibbs-White when the England under-17s won the World Cup and also had him on loan at Swansea.

Forest’s stellar summer recruitment has been brilliant so far during 2022/23. Prior to the World Cup, he scored in games against Brentford and Crystal Palace as the Reds collected a huge four points.
Tonight, Gibbs-White will hope to be passed fit to play for Forest against his former club Wolves. Ahead of the game, he’s been discussing Rooney and the role he’s played in shaping how he plays.
The Forest man told the Daily Mail: “As a kid I loved United and I always watched Rooney. I really enjoyed the sort of player he was: hard-working, gritty, didn’t care who was in front of him, he was going through them.
“He scored goals, set them up. He wore No10 and I’ve often played in that position, so I was buzzing to be offered that short when I joined Forest.”
