Ian Wright used to play for Nottingham Forest back during his playing days and it would appear that he’s a huge fan of Ryan Yates. The pundit praised the Reds star during last night’s Match of the Day on BBC One.

The 24-year-old was withdrawn at half-time during the 2-0 win over Leicester. Brennan Johnson scored twice as the Reds secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.

Forest have climbed to 13th place in the league table. Things are now looking up for the Reds and they will gain more belief that they can in fact avoid relegation during 2022/23.

Yates has been a mainstay in the Forest team during the current campaign. Yesterday, however, he was forced off at half-time after picking up an injury during the opening 45 minutes.

Wright still found time to praise him and delivered a short, but sweet, quip about the Forest academy graduate.

He told Match of the Day: “Yates did really well in that particular moment. I love him, he’s just fantastic.”

Yates does seem to be every neutrals favourite Forest player. He works hard, always gives his all and bleeds for the Reds’ cause on a weekly basis.

Yesterday, he was forced out of the action, with Jack Colback coming on in his place when the teams emerged from the half-time interval.

Supporters will hope that it was merely a precaution. Yates is very important to the Reds’ fortunes and with a week to now rest, hopefully, he can make the trip to Bournemouth.

Even the player’s harshest critics would be hard-pushed to find something to pick at him for of late. He’s taken to the Premier League really well and adapted as the season has progressed.

Yates is still a work in progress. It’s fair to say that he’s started to learn from his errors now and he’s looking very much like a player who can perform in the Premier League.

With injuries mounting, Cooper will hope for some good news. Dean Henderson also hobbled off the field at the full-time whistle yesterday, with several players currently on the treatment table.

Yates was good during the opening 45 yesterday and receiving praise from Wright should ensure that his confidence stays sky high.
