Nottingham Forest are in pole position to sign goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic from Dinamo Zagreb, according to German Ijak. The Reds are on the hunt for a new custodian after it emerged that Dean Henderson had suffered a tear in his thigh.

Livakovic starred at the World Cup in Qatar at the back end of last year. He helped Croatia claim third place in the competition, as they defeated Morocco in the Third Place Play-Off.

The goalkeeper produced some serious heroics in the knockout stages. He saved a number of penalties as Croatia defeated Japan and Brazil in shootouts and he’s now a wanted man.

Livakovic will be allowed to leave Dinamo Zagreb this month. However, they want a transfer fee of £8 million and it’s claimed that they won’t accept a penny less.

Forest aren’t alone in this chase. Other clubs from the Premier League are monitoring the situation, whilst Villarreal hand the player an attractive option in Spain.

Livakovic is a fan favourite in Zagreb and they won’t be happy to lose the 28-year-old. He’s made 262 appearances for the club and helped them beat Chelsea in the Champions League this season.

Croatia captain Luka Modric is a huge fan of the stopper. After his heroics against Brazil in Qatar he called his teammate ‘miraculous’ after his penalty-saving heroics.

This would be an attractive proposition for the Reds if they can do a deal with Zagreb. Given his age, he has time on his side and he wouldn’t break the bank either.

Livakovic would surely jump at a chance to join a Premier League club. Furthermore, he’d be handed an immediate chance to stake his claim as the number one stopper.

Wayne Hennessey is expected to deputise for Henderson on Saturday. At 35-years-old, however, he’s hardly viewed as a long-term option for the Reds.

In reserve will be Jordan Smith. He recently brought up 20 years at Forest but it’s unlikely that Steve Cooper will want to trust him as anything more than a backup option.

Rumour rating: 8/10 – Livakovic is on the back of a solid World Cup and his confidence should be sky-high. As a result, we think there is a lot to like about Forest getting hold of a very solid goalkeeper at a decent price.
