Southampton could scupper Nottingham Forest in their quest to sign Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma this month.

According to 90Min, they’re making a bid of £20 million to try and sign Nicolas Jackson from the Yellow Submarine.

Subsequently, that could have a knock-on effect on Forest, with Villarreal not keen on selling Jackson and Danjuma this month.

Forest have been targeting a number of players this month and have added Gustavo Scarpa and Danilo so far.

Chris Wood looks likely to be the next player through the door, with Newcastle sanctioning the move on Thursday night.

Danjuma would provide a different option though and furthermore, he’d provide an injection of pace to the City Ground ranks.

The 25-year-old has been in England to talk with several clubs. Forest are one of those, with Everton and Aston Villa also in the mix.

Danjuma has scored six goals this season but Villarreal are keen to let him leave before the end of the month.

It would appear that they want to cut their cloth, however, and if Jackson goes to Southampton it seems as though Danjuma could stay put.

The 2021/22 campaign was a fruitful one for Danjuma. He helped the La Liga outfit reach the last four of the Champions League and scored 16 goals.

Southampton could scupper Forest plans for Danjuma

The Dutch forward would be a brilliant signing for Forest and hopefully, Villarreal will be willing to do business.

Much might depend on whether or not they can sign a replacement for Jackson. If they can do that, perhaps they will let both players leave in January.

Forest would welcome an injection of pace into their attack before the end of the window.

Sam Surridge and Emmanuel Dennis are the current options from the bench and they haven’t really done enough.

This Southampton situation is slightly concerning though and Forest will hope it doesn’t scupper their plans.
