Everton are now in the race to sign Brazilian winger Tete from Lyon before the transfer window closes. According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees are keen to add the player who has been courted by Tottenham to their ranks before the end of the month.

Much like a naughty kid at school, Everton appear to be copying Forest when it comes to their recruitment. Every player that seemingly gets linked with a City Ground move gets mentioned in the discussion when it comes to who Everton might sign.

Tete is a wanted man this month, with Leicester also keen on his services. The 22-year-old is on loan with the Ligue 1 outfit from Shakhtar Donetsk and they do hold an option to secure his services on a permanent basis for £17.5 million.

It’s been a turbulent season for Lyon, however. They currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 and it does appear unlikely that they will activate their clause to land Tete on a permanent basis anytime soon.

Despite a season of relative struggle, Tete has still been producing the goods. He’s scored six goals and registered five assists during 2022/23 and now Premier League clubs are courting the player ahead of a January move for his signature.

Whoever lands the winger in the next week or so, will be getting a pretty decent player. He can play on either flank, has an abundance of skill and also has experience playing regularly in Europe.

Everton are in dire straits. They languish in 19th place in the Premier League and desperately need some reinforcements. Arnaut Danjuma was also linked with Forest and he looks set to sign a £100,000-a-week deal with Everton.

Forest might not move for Tete right now. They’ve already landed Gustavo Scarpa this month and perhaps they will now look for a different type of forward during the rest of the January transfer window.

For Everton or Leicester, however, he could prove a useful addition. With that in mind, it will be intriguing to see where he does move to before the closure of the transfer window.
