Nottingham Forest were linked with Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure earlier this month. Now, following the sacking of Frank Lampard, it’s emerged courtesy of The Sun, that he’s training alone.
It throws the future of Doucoure into question at Goodison Park. The Mali international has started just three games in all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign.
It’s a bit of a fall from grace for the 30-year-old midfielder. He was signed by Everton for £20 million from Watford and was expected to become a very useful addition to the squad.
Injury has blighted his time at Goodison Park somewhat. He checked in from Vicarage Road in 2020 but has made just 80 appearances for the club since arriving on Merseyside.
Lampard was dismissed yesterday, with Everton 19th in the Premier League. It’s claimed that he had a huge bust-up with his players in recent weeks and that resulted in Doucoure training on his own.
With the transfer window now open, perhaps he will be sold this month. Signing him won’t be easy, however, with Doucoure earning around £120,000-a-week at Everton.
Forest-linked Doucoure now training alone
It does seem unlikely that Forest will move for Doucoure any time soon. They’ve signed Danilo this month and that leaves them pretty well-stocked in defensive midfield for now.
The 30-year-old would be a logical link to Forest, however. Sporting director Filippo Giraldi has signed him before, bringing him to Watford from Rennes in 2016.
Naturally, Doucoure would be a useful signing for plenty of Premier League clubs. His injury record is hardly great though and it’s not unreasonable to say that Forst have better options in the squad.
Given that he’s now training alone at Goodison Park, he could get a move away from the club this month. The Forest ship looks to have sailed though and perhaps he will have to look elsewhere.
