Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has delivered a concerning injury update on Ryan Yates ahead of the Manchester United test.

The Reds face the Red Devils in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tomorrow night at the City Ground.

Yates has been integral this season but he’s been substituted early on in Forest’s last two fixtures.

On both occasions, the midfielder has been ill rather than injured and it’s now becoming a concern.

Yates recently brought up a milestone of 150 appearances in the Garibaldi and he’s improving all of the time.

Forest will dearly miss the midfielder if he’s out for tomorrow night’s game and Cooper has provided an update.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “Whether he will be available for Wednesday, we don’t know yet.

“Everyone else was fine from the weekend, so we’re as we were.”

Yates, 25, is one of the sweethearts of the City Ground fan base and Cooper likes him a lot.

He bleeds the red of Forest and having him in the team tomorrow night would certainly improve the chances of a positive result.

Earlier in the season, Yates was captaining the team in the absence of Joe Worrall and it’s a role that he relished.

His teammates love him and Cooper will be anxiously hoping that the midfielder can play against Manchester United tomorrow.

The midfielder was seen mouthing, ‘it’s the same as last week’ when he was substituted at Bournemouth.

Clearly, the fact that it’s been the same thing twice is now a concern and the medical team will be hard at work.

Yates is a massive part of the way that Cooper wants Forest to play.

The Reds might not have the lionshare of the ball tomorrow night and out of possession, Yates is often brilliant.

Cooper will be putting him straight in the team if he’s fit and he will have everything crossed for Yates.

The player’s health is of course paramount but Forest would dearly love him to make it for the Manchester United clash.
