Nottingham Forest are likely to try and sign Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini to the City Ground and they’re pushing for a deal now. According to Sky Sports in Italy, the Reds are interested in the man who has won a league title at the San Siro.
Forest are still on the lookout for some new players this month. They’ve already added three so far, with Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo and Chris Wood to their ranks but more could follow.
Gagliardini, 28, has been with Inter since 2017. He signed from Atalanta on loan originally and then made it permanent the year after following a successful temporary stint.
During 2022/23, he’s made 14 appearances. Starting berths haven’t been forthcoming, however, with Gagliardini out of contract with the Italian giants during the summer.
The player has been tipped for big things in the past. Daniele De Rossi previously called him the heir to his throne and ‘really strong’ but it’s fair to say that he’s failed to live up to that billing.
Gagliardini is still a steady player and one who has played plenty of football in Italy. He’s made 175 appearances for Inter and before that played 36 times for Atalanta.
Signing him now is intriguing. Cheikhou Kouyate is out injured at the moment but Steve Cooper does have plenty of options in the middle of the park.
Gagliardini will only strengthen his options and it would appear the Reds are keen for him to sign now rather than in the summer transfer window.
Forest will try and sign Gagliardini
The Italian would be a useful signing but he would hardly be a worthwhile addition right now. Clearly at least one midfielder will be heading out on loan and there’s a possibility of two going.
Gagliardini is more defence-minded with his midfield play. Forest could perhaps utilise him as an alternative to Cheikhou Kouyate.
If Forest do get the 28-year-old over the line, it will be fascinating to see what comes next.
Surely some players will be set to depart and it already seems as though the squad could have a different feel to it comes the end of the month.
