Jim White delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest interest in Keylor Navas

TalkSPORT host Jim White has backed Nottingham Forest to pull off a coup if they sign Keylor Navas. He was discussing the potential deal for the goalkeeper on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily.

Forest have been heavily linked with the signing of another goalkeeper. Dean Henderson has been ruled out for around a month and Wayne Hennessey could do with some competition.

Navas is set to leave PSG with his contract out at the end of the season. It’s been claimed that the Reds can land the Costa Rican for a fee of around £4 million this month.

Given the career that Navas has had, it would be quite a signing. He’s won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid and also enjoyed some big moments playing for PSG.

Navas was out in Qatar at the back end of last year for the World Cup. He played in all three games as Costa Rica failed to make it out of a group including Germany, Spain and Japan.

White thinks that the 36-year-old could be a decent addition to the ranks.

He said on BBC Transfer Gossip Daily: “I think this is a really, really intriguing idea for Forest. Dean Henderson their first-choice goalkeeper is injured, he’s likely to be out for a month.

“Any anyway, he’s on loan from Manchester United – they could really do with a really experienced goalkeeper to come in. Wayne Hennessey is the reserve. But no, actually, I think that would work for them.”

White has backed Forest to pull off a Navas coup

Navas would be a remarkable addition to the Forest ranks. Hennessey is steady enough but the ex-Real Madrid man is in a different league to the Wales number one.

Signing him won’t come easily though. There will have to be a discussion about wages, with Navas earning around £200,000-a-week on his current contract at PSG.

White is a man who for so often has had his finger on the transfer pulse. These days, he’s more a host than a transfer guru but still, he knows his stuff.

Forest were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last night. Hennessey didn’t do too much wrong but perhaps it did highlight the need for another goalkeeper.
