Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has made a claim about Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The world-class Red Devils star opened the scoring as they beat the Reds 3-0 at the City Ground last night.

The result all but ended Forest’s chances of reaching the Wembley final. They must now go to Old Trafford and score at least three goals; something which the Reds haven’t done since 1986 when Brian Clough was in charge.

Rashford carried the ball from the halfway line before firing beyond Wayne Hennessey in the Forest goal. He tormented Serge Aurier throughout the contest and for the goal he had Joe Worrall quaking in his boots.

The 25-year-old has been a man on a mission this season. He’s roared back to his best under the influence of Erik ten Hag, scoring 18 goals and registering six assists in all competitions.

After last night’s game, Cooper heaped praise on Rashford. He was clearly disappointed with the result but ultimately he tipped his hat to the England international.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: “The manner of the goals were disappointing. Rashford is one of the most in-form players in the country at the moment, so for us to allow him to do what he did is disappointing.”

Rashford is in fine form. Gareth Southgate was at the City Ground last night and perhaps he will be regretting giving the United man just four minutes as England exited the World Cup to France.

At 25-years-old, it’s scary how good Rashford could be. The forward doesn’t look like missing a deal at the moment and last night he gave the Forest defenders a nightmare.

Still, this cup tie won’t define Forest’s season. Their main objective is to remain as a Premier League club, although it’s perhaps disappointing with the manner in which they lost.

Cooper is right about Rashford. Right now, he’s one of the best players in the world and he could lead United to glory during the 2022/23 campaign.
