Fabrizio Romano has delivered a worrying update on Nottingham Forest and their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Felipe. The Reds have been looking at the centre-back as someone who can come in and bolster their rearguard.

The transfer guru has now claimed that Bayer Leverkusen are pushing hard to overtake Forest in this particular race. Xabi Alonso wants a defender this month and fancies Felipe.

Forest and signing players have been as frequent as clockwork since they reached the Premier League. Still, the Reds have pulled clear of the relegation zone in recent weeks and Steve Cooper will want to keep the momentum.

The £77,000-a-week defender has bags of experience in European football. He signed for Los Rojiblancos in 2019 from Porto and has helped the team win a La Liga title under Diego Simeone.

The 33-year-old has made 113 appearances for Atletico and scored four goals. He will be out of contract during the summer and now the club are willing to sell him to Forest.

Romano has today delivered a pretty worrying update for Forest fans to get their head around. He’s claimed that the Bundesliga outfit are pushing hard to sign the experienced performer and Forest now have competition.

This would definitely be a popular signing with the club’s fan base. Many have suggested all month that the Reds could benefit from another central defensive signing during this window.

Joe Worrall and Willy Boly have been in possession of the shirts just lately. Scott McKenna and Steve Cook are in reserve but it would appear that Cooper doesn’t overly trust those two.

Felipe played 142 times for Porto before joining Atletico. As a result, he will arrive at the City Ground as a proven defender and he could be a useful asset in the fight against relegation.

That said, Leverkusen are now throwing a spanner in the works. They are an established top-flight outfit and at 33, Felipe might see this as his last chance to play for a top club.

Based on Romano’s latest comments, Forest now face a very anxious wait.
