Nottingham Forest will confirm the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey on Monday, according to Martin Hardy from The Times. The Reds have struck a deal with the Magpies and the player will now leave the club for the City Ground.
Forest have identified another midfielder during the January transfer window. Cheikhou Kouyate is expected to be out until March, whilst there are currently some concerns over Ryan Yates too.

Shelvey comes with a wealth of experience. He’s been with Newcastle since 2016 when he signed from Swansea City for £12 million after spending a short time at Liverpool.
The League Cup winner has been largely useful for Newcastle. He’s made 202 appearances for the club and has also collected six England caps during his colourful career.
Shelvey earns around £70,000-a-week at Newcastle. It’s likely that he will earn similar if not more when he pens his new contract with Forest later today.
The Times claims that the deal is now completed. Shelvey will end his long association with Newcastle and now the challenge for Steve Cooper is to get him back to his best.
Forest will confirm Shelvey signing
The Reds have been targeting a midfielder all month. With Kouyate and Yates missing and Lewis O’Brien set to head out on loan, Cooper’s ranks will be decimated somewhat.
Shelvey brings a wealth of experience to the City Ground. He has been there and seen it all in the Premier League and the challenge for him now is to stay fit and remain in the team.

The 30-year-old has a wonderful range of passing. Throughout his career, he’s caught the eye with that attribute and Forest will hope he can help them move the ball a little quicker.
Shelvey is a signing that will divide opinion. He’s not played much football over the last couple of years and as a result, the jury will remain out on the midfielder.
