Nottingham Forest have switched their attention towards goalkeeper Emil Audero, according to the Daily Mail. The Reds are needing to act quickly in their attempt to sign a custodian after getting a setback over Keylor Navas.

Forest had hoped to sign the Costa Rican on loan until the end of the season. Now, however, PSG are unwilling to let him leave the club on transfer deadline day and it’s back to the drawing board.

Audero is a highly-rated goalkeeper who moved to Sampdoria from Juventus in 2018. He signed initially on loan and made the move permanent 12 months later after some fine form.

Sampdoria are not enjoying a great season in Serie A. They’re a bit of a basket case at the moment and are embroiled in a serious fight against relegation from the top flight.

Audero was actually a target for Arsenal in 2019. He was tipped to be the heir to Petr Cech’s throne and they wanted to sign him to replace the former Czech Republic international.

The 26-year-old would represent a younger option than Navas. He could sign on loan with a view to a permanent deal, with Forest also monitoring PSG star Sergio Rico.

It’s hard to judge the Sampdoria ace this season. He does only have two clean sheets to his name but the Serie A club are in a bit of a mess these days.

Audero would surely relish a crack at the Premier League. He would welcome the chance to stake a claim for a place and with Dean Henderson injured he’d have a big opportunity.

At 26, the goalkeeper is at a nice age and he could still improve a little bit. In the short term, he’d certainly be a better option than Wayne Hennessey who has struggled a little bit.

The clock is ticking on transfer deadline day. As a result, Forest will have to get their skates on if they’re to get a deal for Audero over the line before tonight’s cut-off.
