Jonjo Shelvey’s squad number has been confirmed by Nottingham Forest as #6.

The shirt number was previously assigned to Loic Mbe Soh, but the youngster has joined Guingamp on loan for the remainder of the season.

Previous names to have worn the shirt include Kelvin Wilson, Guy Moussi, Ian Breckin and former Newcastle teammate Jack Colback.

Manager Steve Cooper is yet to offer any thoughts on the signing of Shelvey, although he will likely discuss that.

The man signed from Newcastle has been speaking to the official website and he’s praised, Steve Cooper.

He told the media: “I spoke to Eddie Howe and he had such good words to say about Steve Cooper.

“I previously knew of him from my time at Liverpool, so I knew what a fantastic coach he was.

“But, meeting him for the first time has been a breath of fresh air.”

Shelvey is currently recovering from a very minor niggle in his hamstring.

It was nothing serious and the Reds midfielder got through his medical unscathed.

The challenge for Cooper is to get Shelvey fit and firing as quickly as possible, with Forest keen to get him on the pitch.

At 30-years-old, the player has plenty to offer and his experience could be vital in the push towards survival.
