Blackburn are sweating on the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien, reports Lancashire Live. The Reds sanctioned a loan move for their midfielder with hours remaining of the transfer window.

Forest added Jonjo Shelvey to their midfield ranks on deadline day. As a result, the club were willing to let O’Brien leave, with Blackburn holding off competition from West Brom and Sheffield United.

The 24-year-old only arrived at the club during the summer. He cost £10 million from Huddersfield Town and he’s made 17 appearances in all competitions.

Ultimately an illness around the time of the World Cup knocked the midfielder for six. He was forced out of the squad and sadly for him the team start performing better, leaving Steve Cooper with a decision to make.

O’Brien has scored for Forest during the current season. He scored a consolation goal as the Reds were beaten 3-2 by Fulham back in October when the Reds were still finding their feet.

The player has been a little bit unfortunate in terms of a place in the team. Sadly for him, Forest’s best form of this season came at a time when other players were playing and he’s not been able to get a game.

The midfielder will be desperately hoping this deal gets over the line. He faces more time on the sidelines if not and that won’t do anyone any favours in the second half of the season.

Blackburn are nicely poised to achieve a play-off spot this season. Signing O’Brien will definitely enhance those chances, with the player one of the best midfielders in the second tier last season.

It’s a shame how all of this has turned out for the Reds star. He will have fancied making an impact in the Premier League. Right now, however, he simply has better players ahead of him.

The best outcome for all parties here is that the EFL ratify the loan deal. If that happens O’Brien can get his head down, play football and hopefully come back to Forest ready to prove a point.
