Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes praised Nottingham Forest for one aspect of their performance at Old Trafford last night. The Reds went down 2-0 to the Red Devils who could now lift a trophy for the first time in six seasons.

Forest fought valiantly throughout the second leg of the semi-final. They trailed 3-0 from the first leg but in the first 45 minutes here, they were unlucky not to be ahead of United.

Brennan Johnson was instrumental going forward for the Reds. First, he should have perhaps squared to Sam Surridge who was in acres of space and the second time he did find Emmanuel Dennis but his shot was blocked on the line by Surridge.

It was always going to be a tough night for the Reds. Starting any game against United is tricky but knowing that you’re 3-0 down already, it would have felt like a mission impossible.

Following the introduction of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho from the bench, it was always going to swing the pendulum of the contest the other way.

Within minutes, the hosts had the lead, with Rashford teeing up Martial to open the scoring before doing the same for Fred to tap in at the back post.

After the game, Fernandes gave a classy interview with Sky Sports. He mentioned that one aspect of the Forest performance impressed him on the night.

He said: “Nottingham (Forest) defended really well. It was tough. They made it really tough for us to get into them tonight and I thought they did really well.”

Fernandes praised and Forest can take a lot of heart

United are bang in form and it was always going to be a tough semi-final. But, Forest gave it a go and last night, they didn’t disgrace themselves at all.

Quite simply, United are just better. They have players who cost a fortune, stars who are proven in the Premier League and a World Cup winner within their ranks.

Fernandes praising Forest does feel like a nice touch. United will now hope to get back into the winners’ circle, whilst Forest will focus on stopping in the Premier League.

There is definitely more to come from this Forest team. If they defend as they did against United against some of the other teams in the league, then more points will definitely come their way.
