Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Keylor Navas has been named in the FIFA Team of the Week. by the makers of FIFA 23. The Reds stopper was in fine form as he made his debut for Forest in the 1-0 win over Leeds United at the City Ground.
Navas was called into action in just the second minute. He made a tremendous save and claim from Luis Sinisterra after he had beat Willy Boly to an aerial challenge in the opening stages of the contest.
The 36-year-old is the first player to ever play for Forest who has won the European Cup more times than Forest. His experience told later in the first half against Leeds as he made three brilliant stops to prevent Leeds from restoring parity.
After the game, Steve Cooper raved about Navas. The Forest head coach told Nottinghamshire Live: “Everyone knows what he’s done in the game. He wanted to show who he is today. He’s shown fantastic humility and today he was outstanding in the first half.”
The FIFA Team of the Week is made up each week of the best players across Europe. The players will be boosted on FIFA 23 and for one week they will have boosted stats and be known as ‘in-form players’.
Navas named in FIFA Team of the Week
The goalkeeper still has what it takes to perform in the Premier League. He proved that within minutes against Leeds and he will hope to continue in fine form for the rest of the 2022/23 campaign.
Navas has enjoyed a wonderful career. He’s been considered the first-choice goalkeeper at two of Europe’s biggest clubs in PSG and Real Madrid, winning several top titles.
With Dean Henderson injured, Forest made the decision to look for another goalkeeper. Early interest in Navas was met with intrigue, although plenty felt he wasn’t realistic.
The experienced player was intrigued though. Ultimately, it was the goalkeeper who pushed for the deal to be completed. At the eleventh hour, the deal went through.
If Navas continues his fine form, he might make the FIFA Team of the Week a bit more often.
