Nottingham Forest forward Gustavo Scarpa has shared a picture on Instagram that suggests that Steve Cooper is staying true to his word over Lewis O’Brien.

The Reds midfielder was omitted from the 25-man squad named by the head coach despite playing 14 times for the club during the first half of the season.

This wasn’t Forest’s fault though. It appeared as though the player was set to move to Blackburn. But, Rovers did a Forest and submitted the wrong paperwork at the wrong time!

That leaves O’Brien in limbo. Unless he goes on loan to America or Turkey, the player will now spend six months twiddling his thumbs on the sidelines.

Cooper is an honourable man though. He was quizzed last weekend on the O’Brien situation and he claimed that the club would treat him properly.

Now Scarpa has shared a snap of several players in the changing room after the latest session and O’Brien has been pictured.

The ex-Huddersfield man appears in good spirits even if he must be raging inside at the Blackburn fiasco that has now robbed him of six months of his career.

The Brazilian is a top man. He’s a very decent footballer that is slowly but surely getting used to life in the Premier League and he’s clearly a positive influence in the dressing room.

It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for O’Brien. He did well when called upon during the first half of the season but ultimately, he’s behind several players in the pecking order.

At 23-years-old, O’Brien does have time on his side. Indeed, if Forest do get relegated, it seems clear that the midfielder will have a huge part to play next season.

The midfielder was snapped alongside his teammates and that offers a clear indication that Cooper is sticking true to his word and keeping him around the group.
