BT Sport commentator and Nottingham Forest fan Darren Fletcher wants action taken over Morgan Gibbs-White and Brennan Johnson. The two Reds stars have been in fine form and have helped the team climb the Premier League.

The two players have both been in good form. Gibbs-White and Johnson are striking up a good partnership and combined to set up Chris Wood for the equalising goal against Manchester City.

Johnson signed a new four-year contract in the summer. He committed his future to the club after a brilliant 2021/22 campaign when his 19 goals helped Forest to promotion.

Gibbs-White was the club’s stellar summer signing. He checked in for a club-record fee of £25 million, with the deal potentially rising to £42.5 million and the supporters already love him.

Despite the two players having years to run on their existing contracts, Fletcher thinks Evangelos Marinakis should act now. He wants them tied to even longer contracts ahead of their very best years.

He told the Garibaldi Red Podcast: “Forest’s big challenge is being able to keep hold of Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White. Whether that happens is going to be down to a lot of factors; them, circumstances…the owner. There is a lot to consider here.

“In terms of contracts, I’d do it now. I would show them love now. I’d say, look you’re our future and we want to build this team around you. Make them feel valued and say, look, we’ll show you some loyalty but we expect that back from you.

It would be very surprising to see Forest give two players who have recently signed new deals even better terms. If the pair are still performing in the Premier League this time next year then perhaps the parties will talk.

Gibbs-White and Johnson are both quality performers. They have single-handedly carried Forest in some games this season and their importance is certainly there for all to see.

Fletcher probably speaks for thousands of Forest fans when he says he wants to see the two players sign longer contracts. Right now, however, it’s unlikely to be on the agenda of Forest as they bid for survival.
