Nottingham Forest almost signed Roberto Gagliardini in January but now Leicester have made contact to sign the Inter midfielder. According to FC Inter News, the Foxes are in talks with the player who wants to leave the San Siro giants in the summer.

Forest were unsurprisingly linked with several players during the January transfer window. The Reds wanted to leave no stone unturned in their quest to survive relegation and Gagliardini was one player who had been targeted.

It was perhaps wise of Forest not to sign him. With just six months remaining on his existing contract, Inter were still demanding a sizeable fee and the Reds opted to sign Jonjo Shelvey instead.

In the summer things could be different though. If Forest remain in the Premier League they will definitely target more players and a central midfielder or two could be targeted.

Gagliardini will be available on a free transfer and he could prove to be very useful business. He has made 178 appearances for Inter since signing for the club for £20 million in 2017.

His 2022/23 campaign has been frustrating, however. He has started just three times in Serie A this season; with just seven minutes of game time coming from the last four games that Inter have played.

Furthermore, he was recently overlooked for the Champions League clash with Porto. Gagliardini was an unused substitute during the 1-0 win and his days look to be numbered at the San Siro.

Central midfielders won’t come much better on a free transfer than the Inter man this summer. Gagliardini is vastly experienced and clearly, Leicester are keen to take him to the King Power Stadium.

Forest might need to move quickly in order to lure the Italian performer to the City Ground. Other clubs will likely make a move for the player who seems to hold a desire to play in the Premier League.

Gagliardini is in the prime of his career at the moment. His lack of game time this season is perhaps a bit of a concern but he’d still be a very useful addition to the Forest squad.
