European club drop pathetic case against Nottingham Forest over Harry Toffolo

Anderlecht have decided not to report Nottingham Forest to FIFA over the club’s decision not to let Harry Toffolo join them. The man who helped Huddersfield to last season’s play-off final had been expected to join the club on loan during January.

Toffolo has found first-team football hard to come by. He has slipped behind Renan Lodi in the pecking order and the player travelled to Belgium in January to discuss terms over a loan to Anderlecht.

At the eleventh hour and with everything agreed, Forest pulled the plug. The Reds received news that Omar Richards had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation from a broken leg and Toffolo was required as backup.

Anderlecht were considering reporting Forest to FIFA. They felt that they had a case given that Forest had apparently signed off on the relevant paperwork for the deal to be completed.

Now, they’ve changed their stance, however. Le Soir claims that the club are now abandoning those place. They have received confirmation from FIFA that they are not in power to comment on the matter.

It means that they’d need to take it up with CAS. Doing so could take many weeks of debate between the clubs and could require Toffolo to speak against Forest; something that he clearly wouldn’t be willing to do.

Anderlecht have decided not to report Forest and appeal was pathetic anyway

It’s a bit rich this, isn’t it? Anderlecht, the club who bribed match officials years ago to overcome Nottingham Forest in Europe, now considering another feeble act. Are we really surprised?

Forest were well within their rights to pull the plug on the Toffolo deal. Not all of the relevant paperwork had been signed and the injury to Richards caused the Reds to act.

Since the debacle, Toffolo has featured for Forest. He came on against Manchester City and also on Saturday during the defeat to West Ham.

The 27-year-old will be keen to put this behind him. With Lodi showing signs of fatigue lately, perhaps Toffolo will play more football as the season progresses.

Thankfully, this hasn’t come to anything. Now, both clubs must put this firmly behind them and move on.
