Nottingham Forest were linked with Jacob Greaves yesterday and in March 2022 he suggested that he looked up to Michael Dawson. The centre-back is also on the radar of Aston Villa and Brentford and is valued at £7 million by the Tigers.

Forest will go in search of new central defenders in the summer. This season, Steve Cooper has utilised nine different central defensive partnerships and that is far too many. Felipe and Joe Worrall are in control of the shirts right now.

Greaves would be a pretty decent signing if a deal can be struck. He is only 22-years-old and has showcased this season that he can operate as a left-back as well as a central defender.

Dawson was playing in the Hull team when Greaves was on the books as a youngster. The central defender started and finished his career with Forest; becoming a legend in the eyes of some supporters on Trentside.

Greaves has spoken very highly of Dawson, explaining that he helped him a lot when he was trying to force his way into the senior ranks at Hull.

He told the Yorkshire Post in March 2022: “I have seen a lot of players come through. We had ‘Daws’ in the middle and while he was not really the most mobile – I think he’d say that himself – his reading of the game and qualities on the ball were second to none.

“He used to play in the middle of the back three and zing it out to the right and left and was phenomenal at that. He helped me settle into the club and it was such a good squad to come into.”

If Greaves becomes half as good as the City Ground favourite, Forest will have themselves a serious player. Dawson was excellent on Trentside and also made four appearances for England during his career.

The Sky Sports pundit can look back on his career with a great deal of pride. He spent almost 10 years with Tottenham and then spent four years with Hull.

Now Greaves will hope to become the next Hull talent to earn a big move. Several clubs are interested in him and Forest will hope to win the race.

The fact he looked up to Dawson bodes well. Forest could do with that type of defender in their squad and hopefully, a deal can be struck with the burgeoning talent.
