Nottingham Forest officially have a more dangerous passer than Phil Foden in their ranks

Some statistics have emerged that showcase Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White as a more dangerous passer than Phil Foden. The data comes from Wyscout and has been doing the round on Twitter courtesy of statistics boffin Ben Griffis.

Gibbs-White signed for the Reds during the summer transfer window. He was quickly identified as Steve Cooper’s number one transfer target and Forest parted with an initial £25 million to sign him. The deal could end up costing Forest £42.5 million.

Still, the transfer fee is nothing to do with Gibbs-White. He has taken everything in his stride and he gives his all in every game. So far during 2022/23, he’s scored twice for the Reds and also registered five assists in the Premier League.

Now, these stats have come to light and they make for interesting reading. The list is compiled based on Passing Danger Index. An explanation claims that PDI is the harmonic means of smart passes, deep completions, shot assists and key passes.

The compilation has Gibbs-White in fifth place with a PDI of 1.01. The Forest man is higher in the table than Mohamed Salah, Ilkay Gundogan, Trent Alexander-Arnold and his good friend from his England under-17 days, Foden.

Gibbs-White is a more dangerous passer than Foden but he still has work to do

Foden is a generational talent. As a result, Gibbs-White will know that he has some work to do to be ranked in the same bracket as the Manchester City star.

Still, these statistics show that he’s on the right path. He’s giving his all and his talent has been abundantly clear in a Forest shirt over the last six months.

It’s nice to see a Forest player performing high up in a particular list of stats. The challenge for Cooper, however, is to get the Reds playing on the front foot more often, particularly away from home.

When the team does that they look exceptional. Against City recently, Chris Wood scored following a 20-pass move but Forest fans haven’t seen it enough this season.

With players like Gibbs-White in the team, Forest have a strong chance of survival. More consistency is required though and that’s the aim between now and the end of the season.
