Clinton Morrison has heaped praise on Brennan Johnson after Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Everton at the City Ground. The Reds forward scored twice as Steve Cooper’s team were forced to come from behind on two occasions.

The Reds didn’t start the game well. They fell behind after just 10 minutes when Demarai Gray scored from the penalty spot after Jonjo Shelvey had fouled Dwight McNeil in the area.

Johnson equalised nine minutes later. He swept home after Morgan Gibbs-White had played a lovely one-two with Chris Wood and then stung the palms of Jordan Pickford.

Abdoulaye Doucoure put the Toffees back in front on 29 minutes. His header rounded off a move that typified Sean Dyche, with Everton winning three aerial challenges in the penalty area.

Forest weren’t to be denied though. Johnson equalised again with 14 minutes remaining and from that point, there was only one team that looked likely to go on and win the game.

Morrison was desperately impressed by Johnson. He raved about him live on air as he covered the game for BBC Radio 5 Live at the City Ground.

He said: “Oh my! It’s a fantastic finish from Johnson, what talent that young man has.”

The Forest forward is growing as a player with each passing week. He now has nine goals to his name this season and since the World Cup, it’s fair to say he’s been like a different player.

Forest know that they will need to keep Johnson fit and firing this season. He’s a wonderfully talented player and he could hold the key to the Reds keeping their Premier League status.

Johnson scored 19 times for the Reds last season. He helped the team win promotion at a canter and ultimately he was the main man in the push towards a place in the top flight.

Now, he’s growing as a Premier League star. Forest have work to do in their fight towards survival and it seems crystal clear that Johnson will be integral.
