Sean Dyche makes truly bizarre claim after Everton draw with Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Everton at the City Ground yesterday and afterwards, Sean Dyche made a bizarre claim to the media. The Reds came from behind twice during the contest, with Brennan Johnson bagging a brace.

In terms of managers who know Forest well, Dyche is near the top of the list. The man who kept Burnely in the Premier League for a number of years was a regular at the City Ground when he was out of work.

Now, his remit at Goodison Park is crystal clear. He must keep the Toffees in the Premier League and then build a squad capable of kicking on next season should they do so.

Dyche is a character that is welcomed in the modern game. Some of his comments after the clash yesterday, however, were frankly quite bizarre when he addressed the media.

He bemoaned an apparent lack of penalties for his side. In hindsight that’s a fair assessment, although it wasn’t after yesterday’s game as Everton did get a penalty during the clash.

Dyche told the media: “There were too many mistakes at both ends. I will say, I don’t know how you get penalties these days. I never used to get them at my old club and I’m trying to get one here.”

This really does sound like sour grapes. Referee John Brooks didn’t have a great afternoon but he did get the decision not to award Seamus Coleman a penalty right.

Jack Colback didn’t even attempt to play the ball and the first contact is the Everton man kicking the Forest player. If anything, Everton could perhaps feel aggrieved that they didn’t get a corner.

Dyche isn’t normally one to bemoan referees. It’s weird that he’s asked how he goes about getting a penalty though. His team were literally awarded a spot-kick in the 10th minute of yesterday’s game.

It sounds as though the pressure is creeping up on Dyche already. He knows that Everton need wins quickly with the Toffees still in the bottom three of the division.
