Alan Shearer has raved about Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson after naming him in his Premier League Team of the Week. The 21-year-old scored twice at the weekend as the Reds came from behind on two occasions to draw with Everton.
Johnson took his goal tally for the season to nine with a wonderful brace. He’s a player who is bang in form and it would appear that he’s been a far better player since the World Cup which took place at the back end of last year.

Steve Cooper is a huge fan of Johnson. He’s shown serious faith in him this season when at times it might have been easier to take him out of the spotlight and drop him to the bench.
Now, he’s repaying that faith in bucket loads. Johnson has been in magnificent form for the Reds of late and Shearer believes he’s going to be huge between now and the end of the campaign.
He told the Premier League’s official website: “Scoring another two goals, he is Forest’s big hope for staying in the Premier League.”

Johnson scored 19 goals for the Reds last season as they won promotion. He also claimed 10 assists and the Reds must be desperately glad they turned down a £20 million bid from Brentford in January 2022.
Shearer raved about Johnson and on current form, he’s probably right
It has to be said that Shearer is probably right. If Forest are to stay in the Premier League this season, their hopes will likely pin on the form of Johnson.
The youngster has really kicked on in recent months. He’s becoming unplayable and on Sunday it was interesting that Sean Dyche opted to play Ben Godfrey at left-back to try and thwart him.

Other clubs might do that but as Johnson proved on Sunday, stopping him doesn’t come easily. His second goal in particular saw him drift through the middle and he’s so intelligent.
Forest still have work to do in their fight for survival. If they’re to ensure they stay above the drop zone, Johnson will be absolutely massive for the club.
