Ian McParland thinks that Brennan Johnson could leave Nottingham Forest soon. He’s been talking to Notts TV as the Reds prepare to take on Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.

Johnson has been in fine form of late. On Sunday, he scored twice as Forest came from behind on two occasions as the Reds claimed a 2-2 draw against Everton.

The 21-year-old took his goal tally to nine for the season. Since the World Cup, he’s been like a new signing and he’s really started to showcase his worth as a Premier League player.

McParland has worked at Forest in the past as a coach. He doesn’t believe that Johnson will remain at the City Ground much longer and can see him leaving very soon.

The pundit told Notts TV’s Team Talk show: “He’s a talented lad, Brennan. He’s a fantastic football and I’ll be surprised if he’s still at Forest next season.

“His finishing’s brilliant. If he gets 10 Premier League goals in a side that’s fighting to stay up, that is some return, plus his assists. He’s going to be the man that saves Forest if they’re going to stay up.”

The forward did sign a new four-year contract with the Reds during the summer. Ultimately, however, that will merely help Forest preserve a high valuation on their star man.

Johnson is a brilliant player and his potential holds no ceiling. If Forest don’t stay in the Premier League then it does seem certain that the youngster will remain in the top flight.

The academy graduate has been in remarkable form over the last few years. He was brilliant on loan at Lincoln and then last season he scored 19 goals and claimed 10 assists as the Reds won promotion.

McParland does have a point. Johnson will be the subject of interest from several clubs and Forest will face a fight to keep hold of their most prized possession.
