Champions Manchester City have sent scouts to watch Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson, according to Steve Kay from The Transfer Exchange Show.

The Citizens are one of a number of clubs that look to be watching the Reds star. He has scored nine goals during 2022/23 in all competitions and is becoming sought-after.

Johnson has progressed wonderfully over the last few years. He spent 2020/21 on loan with Lincoln City and he really hasn’t looked back.

That season he scored 13 goals and claimed 14 assists as the Imps reached the League One play-off final.

Last season he returned to Forest with a point to prove. He did that in some style, scoring 19 goals and claiming 10 assists as the Reds reached the Premier League.

Now, he’s taking the top flight by storm. He’s one of the top-performing players aged under 22 and there is more to come from him.

Johnson has been brilliant since the World Cup. He’s been like a brand new player and now he’s adapted to the Premier League.

City are eyeing Johnson as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez. The City man isn’t getting any younger and perhaps Pep Guardiola wants to freshen up his squad.

Forest are getting to the point where keeping hold of their star man might not be easy. The Reds must ensure they stay up this season and even then it might not be enough.

Johnson is set for a bright future. There is no ceiling to his talent and earlier in the season, Steve Cooper called him a ‘fantastic’ player.

City would provide a seriously attractive proposition for Johnson. They’re blessed with endless talent and compete for titles every season.

Forest have work to do in order to keep hold of Johnson. If the club stays in the Premier League they will be able to command a much bigger fee and that’s the aim right now.
