Reports from Portugal claim that Nottingham Forest-linked player Alejandro Grimaldo could still sign a new contract with Benfica. The Reds are interested in the full-back but O Jogo now claims he might sign fresh terms.
Grimaldo will be a wanted man in the summer. As things stand he will become a free agent and that will likely alert several teams across Europe.

Interest comes from all corners of the continent right now. Nice have made an offer to the defender, whilst Real Sociedad, Valencia and Dortmund are all keen on signing him.
Grimaldo is a talented player. He has been with Benfica since leaving the Barcelona academy in 2016. Grimaldo has made 291 appearances for the Portuguese outfit and recently helped them reach the last eight of the Champions League.
Now, his time in Portugal could be drawing to a close. He’s set to walk away on a free transfer and it appears that Forest and Fulham have already made attempts to bring him to the Premier League.

Grimaldo has been called into the Spain squad ahead of the international break later this month. He will hope to collect his first caps in games against Norway and Scotland.
Grimaldo could get new Benfica contract
Grimaldo would be an amazing signing for the Reds. He has scored five goals and claimed 13 assists this season, despite playing all of his games as a left-back.

Signing him up won’t come easy though. Even if he doesn’t sign a new contract, Forest are going to have to fight off competition from several clubs that will be playing in Europe next season.
Firstly, the Reds will have to remain in the Premier League. If they do that they should roll out the red carpet, dig deep into their pockets and do whatever it takes to persuade Grimaldo to sign for them.
