Neal Maupay was all set to sign for Nottingham Forest in the summer but rejected them in favour of a move to Everton. His Goodison Park nightmare could come to an end after just one season, however, with his agent confirming a transfer might be in the offing.

The French striker signed for the Toffees from Brighton. He was all set to make a £15 million move to Forest but at the eleventh hour chose to join Everton instead.

Now, his agent, Federico Pastorello, has been speaking with Tutto Mercato Web. He’s suggested that a move to Salernitana in Serie A could be on the horizon, with the Italian club interested last summer.

He said: “We had a strong negotiation with Salernitana, and then he went to Everton. There has been a technical change, we are at the end of the season and we will see what to do. He sees the A as a place to go, we will work to please him, and there will probably be work to do in Italy.”

Maupay’s time at Goodison Park has been nothing short of a nightmare. He’s scored just once in 20 appearances and hasn’t really done much to convince Sean Dyche of his quality.

Maupay rejected Forest for Everton but he could leave again

The striker’s time at Everton could be short and sweet. The Toffees will go in search of new players during the summer and they will need to raise funds in order to do that.

Forest are unlikely to go back in for Maupay next summer. At 26-years-old, the player does have time on his side but Salernitana will definitely have top-flight football on offer.

The Reds could yet be relegated from the Premier League this season. If they do then signing Maupay looks like a pipedream and it’s probably unlikely they’d want him anyway.

Forest will probably look to sign a striker in the summer. However, they will want one who is capable of scoring more goals than the one that Maupay has managed this season.
